Carrier HVAC Equipment 48HJ Rooftop Unit

48HJ units are one-piece high-efficiency rooftop cooling units with gas heat; all units are pre-wired and pre-charged with R-22 at the factory. Units are factory tested in both heating and cooling modes.

The 48HJD is low heat, 48HJE is medium heat, and the 48HJF model is high heat. The 48HJ is available in vertical airflow or side by side horizontal airflow models.

All 48HJ units come standard with electro-mechanical controller and scroll compressors.

  • EERs up to 10.8 and IPLVs up to 12.0
  • Sizes 020 and 024 utilize three electronically and mechanically independent refrigerant circuits; size 028 utilizes two electronically and mechanically independent refrigerant circuits
  • TXV refrigerant metering device for each circuit
  • Liquid line filter driers
  • Electro-mechanical controls:
    • With return smoke detector
    • With supply and return smoke detector
  • Cooling operation range up to 125° F ambient and down to 40° F ambient
  • Low outdoor sound levels: 8.2 bel (sizes 020, 024), 8.5 bel (size 028)
  • Induced draft combustion system used for reliability and safety
  • Single point gas connection and flue outlet hood
  • Rated in accordance with ARI Standard 360
  • Tested in accordance with UL Standard 1995
  • Listed by UL and UL, Canada
  • 48HJ020 and 024 are ENERGY STAR® listed
Maintenance Features
  • Indoor fan deck slides out for added service convenience
  • Single point electrical service entry. Through the basepan electrical connection available.
Installation Features
  • Fit up to installed Carrier DP, DR, TJ roof curbs
  • Dedicated vertical or side-by-side horizontal airflow units
  • Vertical airflow units are field convertible to side-by-side horizontal airflow with field accessory kit or factory option
Reliability Features
  • Compressor protection includes high and low pressure cutouts and over-temperature protection
  • Crankcase heaters are standard on all models
  • Freeze protection on all circuits
  • Condenser-fan motors are internally protected and have shaft down motor design
  • Cabinet made of pre-painted, galvanized steel with baked enamel finish and fully insulated
  • Reliable IGC (integrated gas unit controller) provides system evaluation and troubleshooting via on-board LED
  • Direct spark ignition with two-stage capacity control
  • Alumagard™ coated Turbo-tubular™ heat exchangers
