Enviro-Shield™ refers to the technology used to protect condenser coils from a corrosive environment. Enviro-Shield coil protection by Carrier offers three different coil protection options depending upon the application requirements.

Pre-Coat: The coil's fin stock is coated with a baked-on durable epoxy coating prior to the fin stamping process. Even though the coating of the fin material prior to the fin stamping process is known as "pre-coating," some manufacturers incorrectly refer to this as an E-coat option.

E-Coat: The E-Coat process (electro-deposition) by Carrier ensures that an extremely durable and flexible epoxy coating is uniformly applied over all coil surfaces for complete encapsulation from exposure to the corrosive environment. Carrier's process includes: coil degreasing, water rinse, electro-deposition bath, oven-baked curing process and finally an ultra-violet topcoat protective layer. The resulting E-coated coil is a continuous, impervious coating that gives the coil the maximum corrosion resistance compared to spray on coatings or pre-coated options.

Copper Fins: All-copper construction eliminates the corrosion-inducing bimetallic junction that occurs when aluminum fins are bonded to copper tubes. This provides improved corrosion protection in coastal environments. Uncoated copper forms a natural protective film in coastal environments and a monometallic bond exists between the tube and fin. However, it is not suitable for industrial applications, since many industrial contaminants attack copper.
