The EnergyX™ system by Carrier is the newest design in energy recovery for constant volume rooftop units. The EnergyX system is a factory installed, single piece, fully tested and certified energy recovery system designed for the Centurion® rooftop product line. Combined, the Centurion rooftop unit and the EnergyX system use a single power supply and a single roof curb. Only available for vertical return duct configurations, the EnergyX energy recovery wheel is rated in accordance with ARI 1060 and is ETL certified.
The EnergyX energy recovery system is designed to pre-condition the outside air prior to it entering the rooftop unit evaporator using building exhaust air as a heat source. The system provides latent and sensible energy exchange between the outside ventilation air and the building exhaust air. This preconditioning of air allows higher operating efficiencies, increased comfort control, and potential downsizing of the base rooftop unit while still meeting the ASHRAE ventilation requirements. Operational cost savings are realized by the high efficiency energy recovery device meeting the cooling and heating call for a larger portion of the operating cycle than just a normal damper or economizer device. The energy cost savings of the EnergyX energy recovery system can be demonstrated by computing its Combined Efficiency Factor (CEF) using ARI Guideline V: The Efficiency of Energy Recovery Ventilation and Its Effect on Efficiency and Sizing of Building HVAC Systems using the Packaged Rooftop Unit Electronic Catalog program.
